Random Evening Memo: 063007

  1. I left for the Comets game under threatening skies but made it there without incident.
  2. Like a total putz, I left my (almost brand new 'Blackjack') cell phone on the passenger seat, and once I realized it, worried about (a) the car getting broken into, (b) the phone being stolen, and more than anything (c) Brinks calling because someone broke into my house and I don't know it. (Fortunately, none of these things occurred... whshhhhhew).
  3. I enjoyed the company of my friends, as well as a beautiful 5 year old guest, but one of my friends wasn't well, and didn't make it to the game. And I missed her.
  4. A race was held, and the color of the card that I received at the door matched the winner, meaning that I won a lottery scratch-off ticket. That ticket, however much promise it offered, yielded NADA.
  5. The game was so bad that I went to the box office and picked up my American Idol tickets for the July 15th show (that I purchased for a bunch of my friends, more than a month ago)... and had to engage in 'Sanjaya' talk with others in line. Sigh.
  6. The actual game was less than enjoyable, as the Comets were skunked by the Mercury.
  7. The trip home was also freakishly eventful, as I found myself driving by the home of an ex. I experienced little emotion, though the few good memories that flooded back were quickly squelched by the ones that caused me to end that relationship.
  8. Sometimes self esteem feels like a bitch that denies you of pleasure... but for your own good!

Random Memo: 063007

I met my oldest and dearest friend, to celebrate her birthday today, as well as:

  1. A little shopping at Events.
  2. A little browsing and a little "Cheddar" petting at Telfair At Home.
  3. A little Chinese food at P.F. Chang's.
  4. A little cookie (that she ordered) pickup at The Cookie Jar.
  5. A little shopping for hummingbird juice (et al) at Berings.
  6. A little RAIN... of course.

It was a wonderful day, as are all that I spend in her company! Now let's see what the evening brings!

Bad Things Come In Threes? I'm Hoping Only Fours!

First, my internet went down.

Second, I
broke a tooth.

Third, my
power went out.

And now, an
an investment I thought I could count on... I can't.

Service Interruption

Imagine if you will.. many interesting and humor laden posts... right here.

It's left to your imagination due to an all weekend internet service interruption, thanks to the Time Warner switch to Comcast.

This blog is posted from my office, where I am fortunate to have reliable DSL service. I'm posting quickly, because I will be taking time off this afternoon to meet the Comcast field technician at my house.

Thanks, Comcast. So far, you suck.

And you'd better hope that AT&T doesn't call me this afternoon while I'm waiting!

***UPDATE*** The Comcast man showed up promptly at 2:20, impressing me immensely.

He tested the signal before he got out of his truck and said it was fine. So, he replaced the four year old modem... and oila! I'm back in business. Incidentally, he said that the old modem might have some sort of problem with the transfer, but in general, a modem is only good for a couple of years. He said they run hot, and the chips get burned, causing the internet to slow to an eventual halt. I had NO idea!

Oops... We Did It Again!

My Houston Comets won their second game in a row tonight!

I'd also like to extend my special thanks to the refs for making this a somewhat to excrutiatingly boring game to watch, along with this special message:

"Let them freaking play!".

Happy Final and a Good Night (after long day)!

We did it! We really did it! The Comets scored their first win!

The post game arena atmosphere bore a striking resemblance to those when we've made the playoffs or won the conference finals. And the fact that we broke our date with doom in a game against the l.a. sparks was just icing on the cake.

Tonight's the Night, Comets Rebound

For some reason, I have the feeling that tonight is the night that the Houston Comets will break their losing (0-10) streak.

I read somewhere that Hilton (Koch) said we were going to win the next two games, that would be tonight against l.a. and Friday, against the 1-10 Mystics.

Maybe he's written some checks (I sure hope they clear), or maybe he's just feeling it like I am. And it's our time.

Random Memo: Ten Things That Are Bugging Me Today

  1. Contractors that won't call me back and give me an estimate.
  2. People who take out their frustrations with other people and other situations... on me, and then never own up to it. Everybody does it, from time to time... but just admit it, ya know?
  3. Clear skies and sunshine when I'm at work, thunder, lightning and rain afterwards!
  4. People who can't seem to put things in writing.
  5. U.S. Open preempts Dr Phil, on the one day I get to watch.
  6. And then Oprah is a repeat!
  7. Listening to the air conditioner run and run and run.
  8. Sports team billboards that feature, not the players, but the Owner and his children.
  9. I spent HOW MUCH on my season tickets???

Justice Served? Paris and Jason

In spite of being a little touched in the head, Paris is back in the pokey.

I vascillate in my opinion on whether she is receiving special treatment... or "special treatment. Is her celebrity helping... or hurting her? Is her celebrity helping or hurting her?

Consider Jason Wahler, appearing before a judge across the street from the Hilton hearing today, for violating the terms of probabation for his 2006 battery arrest... just because he was arrested for the
minor issues of criminal trespassing and assault in Seattle earlier this year.

Bless the little 20 year old scumbag's heart.

The judge told him that he "shouldn't drink" because "you can't handle it"... with no mention of the fact that he's underage. And to prove he means business, he ordered Jason to continue attending AA meetings and intensive rehab counseling at least four whole days a week, as well as 36 hours of anger management classes.

Yep. Wahler has been arrested four times in four different states. I'm sure that little spanking will probably get his attention.

Happy Anniversary!

June 2
Mama and Daddy's Anniversary

They've been happily married over 50 years,
and they're celebrating their anniversary in Heaven today.

Hopefully, Daddy remembered and got something obscure that Mom's been wanting.
I think Mama probably got him a new easy chair,
or something else to make him comfortable and relaxed.
And for sure, she made him a chocolate pie!

Good News and Bad News

Good News:

  1. I had the day "off".
  2. I got the oil changed in my CRV and they noted no other problems.
  3. I made it to the dealership within the limits of my "free tires for life" warranty.
  4. I took Miss C for her 6 month checkup and shots. She was found to be in good health, and she had a fabulous time, as usual!
  5. I got the ball rolling on acquiring bids for my home improvement projects!
  6. And I got to watch Dr. Phil!

Bad News:

  1. Miss C has to have her teeth cleaned next Wednesday. She starts antibiotics on Sunday, and I have vowed to wait until then to begin to get nervous. *060307 UPDATE: Comet figured it out. I swear, I've tried to act normally... but I guess between the mystery pills and my clinginess, she put it all together.
  2. Home improvement projects always cost more than you hoped.
  3. Heard on the news that Swoopes is out 4 to 6 weeks with a bulging disk... as if things aren't bad enough for the Houston Comets!
